This collection is about the art of the possible – sharing ideas and bringing them to life. These projects aren’t perfect. I learn by doing and want to pass it on.
Catching Elephant is a theme by Andy Taylor
Head board prior to finishing. About 1.5 hours of work so far. Pulled from anawhite.com. Will do layered, distressed finish.
2nd harvest = 116 figs. Tree needs to good pruning but we are enjoying its bounty.
Homemade Deer repellent. Habanero + Cayenne + Garlic = nuclear option. Deer…you’ve been warned.
Box Puzzle, a christmas present for Dad. Thanks to deecube.com for the inspiration. Building it is one thing, solving it is another story.
Sometimes I create problems to give me a reason to build something. Making lasagna and quickly realized I didn’t have a 4’ pasta rack. I’m sure there’s an easier solution…like laying them on a table…but that doesn’t involve a drill.
I don’t know how she did it, but when I came back 3 of the 4 shelves were done. She knows she’s not suppose to use power tools. Bad girl…
Measure once, cut twice, curse, then head back to the Orange store. Working on a corner cabinet for our master bath.
Cast Iron the way it was meant to be. The original non-stick pan.
Once a year our family gets together to make hundreds of stuffed olives. These little bites of paradise are stuffed with various meats and cheeses then breaded and fried…heaven. Its hard to capture the essence and scale of this operation, but several bottles of red wine with Andrea Bocelli in the background is a good start. Olive all’Ascolana are specific to Ascoli Piceno, Italy…and other than the Piotti family they are one of its greatest exports!
Grandmom’s pizzelles, passed on by Marie and adored by all. Here is my first attempt…which were good…but not great. Clearly there is no substitute for experience. I used the electric pizzelle maker, and have yet more respect for Grandmom who did these one at a time, by hand over a flame (see pic).
Needed extra seating for indoor/outdoor parties. “Cheap” doesn’t mean compromising on style/design. Found this $6 bench @ Killer B Designs. I eyeballed the measurements , used a miter cut to give it clean joinery and stained it two toned with whatever was lying around (dark walnut/cherry). All said cost was $7 and took about 1 hour.
